BasiGo is an early stage e-mobility start-up looking to revolutionise the public transportation sector in East Africa by providing bus operators with a cost effective electric alternative to diesel. A key component of BasiGo’s service offering is the provision of convenient and reliable charging infrastructure to support the bus operations. We are looking for an experienced energy systems Projects Manager in Kigali, Rwanda to help us expand our DC fast-charging network to support electric buses and other vehicle types. The Charging Infrastructure Projects Manager will manage the planning, design, siting, and construction of BasiGo’s network of charging stations.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating charging station deployment through potential site assessment and selection, site design and procurement, and construction and commissioning.
  • Collecting local requirements for delivering charging infrastructure projects in the relevant areas and engagement with local utility, government, and regulatory bodies.
  • Building and maintaining internal & external partner relationships.
  • Compiling and analysing project data to inform technical and economic models that guide BasiGo’s long term charging strategy.
  • Working with local utilities to plan scale-up of high-power charging infrastructure in line with grid capabilities.
  • Managing the Project planning, reporting, budgeting and all necessary documentation for each charging station development.
  • Coordinate the acquisition of compliance certification for each charging site, including Environmental Impact Assessment, Fire Safety and Occupational Health and Safety Certifications, among others.
  • Track performance of the charging infrastructure team’s Key-Results (KRs) in line with the organisation’s overall objectives and key results (OKRs).

Our ideal candidate would have:

  • Experience & Qualifications
    • BS in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering or related field. (required)
    • 8+ years of experience working in urban infrastructure in East Africa, at least 4 of those years working with HV power systems or infrastructure deployment project management in Rwanda. (required)
    • Network of relationships in government and authorities related to electrical grid construction and civil engineering project implementation.
    • Experience permitting procedures, and track record of executing these procedures personally.
    • Experience in installation of high power electronics, mechanical equipment, and site civil works.
    • Familiar with terms and regulations and standards of civil engineering.
    • Experience or familiarity with regulations of electric vehicle charging facilities standards is a plus.
    • Demonstrated ability to independently manage and execute technical projects with a small internal team and outside contractors.
